When Your Water Looks Like This Before Thanksgiving, Who Do You Call?

Imagine the water coming out of your tap looked like the photo above, and you only had one week left until your big Thanksgiving dinner at the cabin. Family arriving. Kids running around. A full house depending on clean water for cooking, cleaning, and a stress-free holiday.

That’s exactly what happened to one of our customers the week before Thanksgiving.
They called Culligan of Chico in a panic. Their vacation home had suddenly gone from perfectly fine water to murky, yellowish, “absolutely not drinking that” water overnight. The kind of water that makes you stop mid-task and think, “This can’t wait.”

And they were right. It couldn’t.

A last-minute emergency before the holidays

The cabin was where their entire extended family would gather for Thanksgiving. But the water there? It looked like apple cider, not drinking water. The customer’s holiday cabin ran on a private well, and something had clearly shifted underground. Maybe it was early-season rain? Maybe it was a change in the soil? After all, this happens more often in Butte County than people realize. Either way, murky water plus incoming family equals real stress.

They were worried they’d have to cancel the entire gathering. Try cooking turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes with water like that. Even coffee becomes questionable.

When we went to check things out, we found that the customer had been manually maintaining their filter system. A small problem in the setup caused a pipe to fail, letting untreated water run straight into the home. The result was the cloudy sample you see in the photo.

Not ideal when Thanksgiving is around the corner.

How we helped (fast)

Culligan of Chico jumped on it right away. We diagnosed the issue, replaced the damaged parts, and ensured this wouldn’t happen again. Even better, we were able to get everything running in time for their holiday weekend.

The clean water didn’t flush the whole house instantly, because the pipes still held old buildup, but the water coming off the new system was already crystal clear. The cabin was back to normal before the first batch of pie crust went in the oven.
